Real Muscle Means Work
Posted by Ken Field in Bodybuilding, Diet, Fitness, Health, tips on 11 30th, 2008| | No Comments »

I always heard that muscle weighs more than fat. This is true. However, thinking that you are bigger means more muscle on your body is false. This datum is for bodybuilders alone.  You want muscle you are going to have to work at it, cut by cut, because it doesn’t come easy.

The way to look at it is if you eat more nutrients than what you’re working out, then you’re going to get bigger.. You have to eat enough, put nutrients into your body to help maintain your body and build up new tissues or else you’re doing no good.

The fact that this event happened in my home town interests me. But also, if you watch the poses you can see the variance of talent, which is interesting to study and learn.

But this is what the producer or person who uploaded the DVD had to say, “Toney Freeman was on fire winning his second in a row. Sensation Silvio Samuel got a deserved 2nd placing and Hide Yamagishi was the first ever Japanese BB to qualify for the Olympia!”

When I first started working with weights, the foremost tip I learned was range of motion.  This video backs that up as well.

Workout With Manners In
Posted by Ken Field in Bodybuilding, Fitness, Routines, tips on 11 30th, 2008| | No Comments »

You might have some pet peeves about other people who workout at the gym and don’t “follow” the rules. I can think of some like: not wiping one’s own sweat off the machine, hanging out at the gym, talking instead of working out, not re-racking all the weights used by someone else, so you can’t find the same size dumbbell. Treating the gym as a pick-up joint where guys check out the babes and Gals check out the guys.

All in all, for the most part those who are working out to build a better bod want their weight room to be conducive to that purpose. When one person or a few, go against that drive, then it’s no fun for anyone. I guess the overall rule is when you’re at the gym workout with your manners in.

Bodybuilders sometimes get a cold or flu which can be tiring and disappointing if the workout is affected by this.  Of course, the workout is affected, so the best thing to do is stay home if you are ill, get rest and drink lots of fluids. Herbal teas and soups are great remedies for the discomfort.  These simple things hydrate the body and fight off infections because they are hot.  You might even feel relief in your congestion.

By staying hydrated includes drinking water and low-sugar juices, which help loosen up and clear out the mucus, soothe an achy, sore throat.  Also, you will be replacing fluid loss due to fever and/or runny nose.

And remember, to take it easy.  Lie your body down, keep it warm and sleep when you feel tired. All this will keep your body’s energy level up to combat the infection cause by a virus.  If you can’t seem to relax, go ahead and dim the lights, watch your favorite movie or take a nice warm bath.

Fast Fajitas
Posted by Ken Field in Bodybuilding, Diet, Recipes, tips on 11 30th, 2008| | No Comments »

I found this yummy recipe at Bodybuilding Trainer.  I had to share it with you. It’s a real treat that can easily become a main meal a couple of nights a week. I don’t know the calorie count, but from the looks of it, it’s just right. Enjoy!

Lightning Fast Fajitas

1 lb. flank steak cut in strips or small pieces
1 large green pepper, cut in strips
1 red pepper, cut in strips
1 medium yellow onion, cut in strips
3 cloves pressed garlic
1 tsp chili powder
Lemon juice
Fresh ground pepper to taste

Sauté garlic in a bit of lemon juice for 1 minute in large wok or skillet, using the lemon juice keeps the oil at bay. Add beef and chili powder and cook until beef is cooked near to the temperature you desire. Add peppers and onions and cook until vegetables are mostly soft, raising the heat for a short time if you like the vegetables slightly charred. Then, you spoon into whole wheat tortillas or if you can find sprouted grain tortillas that’d be good too. Top with salsa or fat-free sour cream if desired.

If the red meat turns you off, go ahead and try chicken strips.

I don’t like the comparision to drug-addiction, but it’s an informative piece about bodybuilding, so I thought I’d share it with you.

Other excellent supplements to ward off a cold or flu are homeopathic remedies.  A great product like Oscillococcinum may lessen severity and extent of the flu symptoms.

Echinacea is excellent at the onset of a cold or flu.  Taken for acute symptoms 3 - 4 ml of Echinacea is a liquid preparation or 300mg of a powered form in tablet or capsule every two hours for the first day of illness, and then three times a day for seven to ten days works best.
