Too Much Leg Extension — Ouch!

The leg extension creates problems in the knees for the bodybuilders.

The leg extension is presumably a wonderful thigh builder. Yet it is known to place an unbelievable amount of strain on the knee joint while quickly overdeveloping the quads, which are already getting far more work than their counterpart, the hamstrings.

The Healthy Back Institute reports that leg extension exercises can cause an imbalance between the quadriceps and hamstrings, which is also extremely common in bodybuilders. It is a key contributor to back pain. This imbalance is easily identifiable by what people often call “Bubble Butt” or “Ghetto Booty”.

When hamstrings are weak or tight it causes the lower back to tighten up and thus strains the back.  It’s very important to work both the hamstrings and quadriceps, equally.
